Medically Supervised Detox with Bwiti-led ceremonies and Care

Root Healing's detox programs integrate the Bwiti tradition, providing a holistic approach to addiction treatment. We use the Bwiti tradition as a foundational container, offering its Iboga ceremonies, teachings, and rituals in conjunction with medically supervised detox and modern medical care. This ensures that our treatment addresses the body, mind, and spirit holistically.

  • Our onsite Medical team ensures a smooth and safe detox
  • Our Iboga  are guided by facilitators trained and empowered in the Missoko Bwiti tradition, who draw directly on the lineage that has worked with Iboga for thousands of years.
  • Guests participate in traditional Iboga ceremonies within a Bwiti-informed container, including fire talks and sacramental use of the whole Iboga plant rather than isolated ibogaine.

Holistic healing of addiction

  • Bwiti understanding of Iboga as a medicine that works physically, mentally, and spiritually shapes the detox program’s design: sessions target withdrawal and cravings while also clearing patterns, trauma, and disconnection from self.
  • Detox retreats typically include at least two psychospiritual ceremonies in addition to detox sessions, reflecting the Bwiti view that lasting freedom from addiction requires both physiological reset and deep reconnection to truth and authenticity.

Ongoing relationship and reciprocity

  • Root Healing maintains active relationship with our Bwiti Elders and village in Gabon, returning regularly for training and guidance to keep our work aligned with the living tradition.
  • Integration support after detox is framed through Bwiti-informed teachings, encouraging participants to continue relating to Iboga as a long-term ally in living from their most authentic self rather than as a one-time intervention.

Our Sacrament Iboga -
"The Godfather of all Plants"

Iboga, the “Godfather of all plant medicines,” is the sacrament used by the Bwiti for profound physical and spiritual healing, and spiritual discovery.

The most recognized alkaloid within the root of the Iboga plant (Tabernanthe iboga) is ibogaine. Ibogaine gained notoriety for its remarkable anti-addictive properties, especially for opiate addiction, and is now used globally and is very well-known

Beyond ibogaine, Iboga contains numerous other alkaloids, some with even more beneficial effects. These alkaloids work harmoniously to facilitate the potent spiritual, mental, and physical healing that the Bwiti have long revered. Most important though, is the spirit of Iboga, which has an ancient wisdom that roots down deep into the earth – the foundation of nature itself.

Sustainable and Ethical Source

All of our Iboga comes from the most sustainable and ethical source there is, the Bwiti people. The Bwiti have been the shepherds and protectors of Iboga for thousands of years and know exactly how to manage it. Since our medicine is collected directly from the Bwiti village we work with; we know exactly where it comes from and how it was prepared.

Traditionally Harvested and Ceremonially Prepared

As is true with all plant medicines, there are traditions around how it is grown, harvested, and prepared. With Iboga, the Bwiti have essential practices to celebrate it, give thanks, and ensure that the spirit of the medicine remains firmly with it. This is important for the medicine to truly heal people on a physical and spiritual level.

All of our medicine has followed this process with deep love and care from our Bwiti family. Here is an example we filmed of them processing of the roots.
